Note 230 – The 3 keys to getting SEO right

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) may sounds scary and technical and but if you learn the basics, you can attempt to get the google ranking that you desire.  If you want people to read your blogs or visit your website, you have to know what it is that they will be looking for.  There are three keys to ensuring that SEO works for you.

1. Create some great content

If the content is great and written with people in mind, people will want to link to it.  Good writers will craft their work carefully and add the right key words here and there.  If you do this, it will give you an advantage over someone who hasn’t done their ‘search engine’ homework.

2. Optimise your content

Tweak the title, headings, key words, tags and categories.  You need to optimise your content in such a way that people will find it and link to it.  If you do all of this, there is no reason why the search engines won’t love it enough to rank it highly.

People search the internet so often, it’s becoming a key activitiy.  You want your content to come up when they search for it, so you need to be thinking like the searcher.  You will also want to make it easy for search engines like Google to be able to read your content.

3. Publish your content with confidence

When you hit the publish button, you will know that you have done everything you can to ensure that you have written something that is needed by others.  This is down to your hard work of selecting adding the right key words; the ones that people are actually looking for.  One more thing to add – don’t worry if you later change your post or page for better optimisation; the search engine will adjust accordingly.
